Error Checking - Macintosh - OS 9.x

This page describes how to use the Macintosh Disk First Aid utility to scan your hard drive for errors.

    • Click on the apple menu button in the top right corner of your screen and open sherlock or sherlock 2.

    • Type in disk first aid as shown below and click on the magnifying glass to search. Double click on the file name to open it. (Should you not have Sherlock or Sherlock 2 installed, you will need to find the file in your hard drive under the utilities folder)

 

    • When the Disk First Aid screen opens, select your hard drive (if you have more then one drive you will need to scan them one at a time)

    • Click on the "Verify" button to begin the scan of your drive

    • If any errors are detected, click on "Repair"

 

    • Shown below is an example of what you will see while the program is verifying your hard drive
