After
installing EnterNet:
- In TCP/IP Control Panel,
select the following: Connect
via: EnterNet
Configure: Using PPP server
Set the DNS addresses in
the Name Server address
field:
206.191.0.140
206.191.0.210
- TCP/IP ->Options (you
need to select Edit -> UserMode
-> Advanced to display this):
Make TCP/IP Active Load
only when needed: Unchecked
- In EnterNet window: Connect
via: Ethernet adapter
In
TCP/IP Control Panel, select
the following:
Connect via: EnterNet
Configure: Using PPP server
Set the DNS addresses in the
Name Server address field:
206.191.0.140
206.191.0.210
These values will be updated
when you're connection is established.
You can verify them by clicking
the TCP Info button.
See above
about setting the Name Server
addresses to 206.191.0.140 and
206.191.0.210. If these placeholder
values are not specified, the
new negotiated addresses won't
be updated.
This error
is because EnterNet doesn't
support sleep mode on the Mac.
It can cause a system freeze.
A workaround is to set the "System
Sleep whenever it's inactive"
setting to "Never" in the Energy
Settings control panel.
These features
are included in the Windows
version and are under consideration
for a future release of the
Macintosh version.

Will
EnterNet always be compatible
with future updates to the Mac
OS, including Mac OS X, on or
before their release dates?
A compatible
version of EnterNet should normally
be available before or soon
after Apple releases new versions
of Mac OS. Enternet is currently
not compatible with OS X so
please refer to the OS X setup
guide.
EnterNet
will not support the new Mac
OS X. Apple has changed the
networking interface and this
will require a major rewrite.
Please refer to the OS X setup
guide to use the HighSpeed service
on Mac OS X.
EnterNet supports all current
versions of Mac OS starting
with 7.6 to the new 9.1 release.
The problems that are occasionally
reported are due to users not
re-installing EnterNet after
the OS has been upgraded or
deleting the System Folder \Preferences
\ Network TeleSystems folder.
There have been reports that
it doesn't work on OS 8.1 and
occasionally 8.5, which are
no longer supported by Apple.
We believe it's a problem with
the version of Open Transport.
In any case we recommend you
upgrade either the Open Transport
or the OS to a supported Apple
release.
EnterNet must be reinstalled
whenever the Mac OS is reinstalled
or updated. This also holds
true when you upgrade the Mac
Open Transport library. If you
continue to experience problems
after re-installing, go to the
System \ Preferences Folder
and delete the entire Network
Telesystems folder. This will
clean up any garbage left over
from previous installs.
Then restart the Enternet application.

There
are two possibilities:
One crash error has been found,
which can be fixed by upgrading
the iMac system and CD-ROM firmware.
Contact Apple for firmware updates.
A more common problem is due
to running AppleTalk over the
Ethernet interface to the broadband
network. This will easily cause
AppleTalk collisions with other
systems that may also be broadcasting
over the same wire. NTS recommends
in all cases to avoid problems
with AppleTalk by pointing the
AppleTalk device on the control
panel to a Remote or Printer
port.
The obvious
cause of this problem is either
the equipment/ cable / network
connection is not functioning
correctly. In rare cases however
it was also found to be due
to re-installations of different
versions of EnterNet, which
found conflicting Preferences
files. To remove this possibility,
uninstall EnterNet, and delete
the NTS folder in the System
-> Preferences folder. Then
re-install EnterNet.

Why do I need to have
my (shared) AppleTalk set to
use the built-in Ethernet port
just to connect?
This is a
limitation of the Mac OS AppleTalk
driver. It is only a problem
for users with 2 Ethernet cards,
one for shared printer access
and the other for the network
connection.
No. Uninstall
the Ivasion software before
installing EnterNet. The WinPoet
or MacPoet drivers interfere
with the Enternet software's
ability to receive packets.
This is a
warning that occurs when the
connection is disrupted and
a network application or browser
is still attempting to download
data. We are looking into removing
this warning in a future release.
EnterNet does not currently
support automatic connections.
Some Firewire
devices have been known to conflict
with EnterNet. Disable the Firewire
extensions from the Extension
Manager and re-install EnterNet
as a workaround.
EnterNet
1.09 supports a maximum of 31
characters in the username and
password field. If there is
a Network Name field also, as
is the case with Sympatico's
network, this is included in
the username field and the total
must be less than 31 characters,
including the "@" separator.
EnterNet 1.11 increases the
length of these fields to 127
characters.
This
has been reported by some users.
Normally, EnterNet does not
require Appletalk and in most
cases you should deactivate
Appletalk when using EnterNet.
The problem arises when you
have an internal network (even
just a networked printer) and
a remote DSL connection on the
same ethernet controller. The
Appletalk device affects all
networking for a single controller.
It would be better to have 2
controllers, one for your internal
network and a second for the
DSL. If you have only one ethernet
controller, you may need to
switch the Appletalk interface
from the printer connection
to print, or to the Ethernet
controller for the DSL connection
must be switched in order to
print documents on a network
printer. This should not cause
problems with the DSL network,
since Appletalk will normally
be dropped by the connecting
router.
This has been reported by some
users. A few have said that
it sometimes takes up to 30
minutes to reconnect when this
happens. We believe this is
an error that occurs when the
server does not disconnect cleanly,
or the user stops the machine
without disconnecting first.
When it still fails to reconnect
after the reboot, we believe
that the server still thinks
you're connected and should
be able to determine that it's
a new connection and delete
the prior one. In this case
you should contact your ISP
for help.
EnterNet supports
MAC OS 7.6 through OS 9.1. There
have been reports that it doesn't
work on OS 8.1, which is no
longer supported by Apple. We
believe it's a problem with
the version of Open Transport
included with 8.1. In any case
we recommend you upgrade to
OS 8.6.
Some users
have been able to get airPort
to work by using the EnterNet
Settings application, and changing
the "Connect via" from the built
in Ethernet device, to point
to the airPort device. If you
need further help with airPort,
contact Apple for support.
